Is anno1777.com Racist?

I saw a 468 x 60 banner advertisement on easyhits4u.com today with black slaves on it and was curious what it was all about. When I first saw it I said to myself no way! So I clicked on it and I wound up at the Anno1777.com website. “Build a Virtual Empire and transform profit into real money” is the current slogan and in the background you’ll see what appear to be both male and female black slaves basically naked with their white slave masters looking over them. Below is a picture of how the anno1777.com website looks in January 2012.

Is this particular slogan really necessary?

I understand that anno1777.com is a game and a lot of games have racial pictures and symbols that some people might find offensive but my issue with anno1777.com is the fact their slogan has Black slaves on it. If for example you play a game like call of duty you will see levels where the swastika is present. The difference with this however is Call of duty did not make the swastika its company’s slogan nor did they put it on the cover of their video game.

Also yes I’m aware that swastika has different meanings to different people but in this particular call of duty game it’s referring Nazi Germany which many people still find offensive. Personally I think anno1777.com should be more considerate to the feelings of others.  There are still Black people that are very sensitive about slavery and there are other races that would prefer not to talk about it or see images of it, because they know there is nothing they can do about it. For marketing purposes I think it would be wise for anno1777.com to reconsider its visual slogan.

Final thoughts on Anno1777.com

Personally I won’t be visiting the anno1777.com website in the future, I suspect the people behind the development of this website have radical and entitlement views of the world and I do not wish to be a part of it in any way shape or form. I’m a believer in learning from the past and not repeating the same mistakes twice, through communication our world is getting better and better with every passing day.

Yes there is lots of work to do and that’s what makes life such a precious gift. A game like anno1777.com in my opinion is step backwards. Their marketing team seems to be catering to only one demographic and I suspect just by looking at their current front page that the demographic that they’re catering to are radical groups that I don’t want to be associated with.
