The NHL Board of Governors has agreed to open the process for an NHL expansion franchise in Seattle, commissioner Gary Bettman said in a press conference Thursday, according to NHL.com’s Dan Rosen.

Bettman says the expansion fee would be $650 million, which is $150 million more than what Vegas paid.

The NHL will allow an ownership group, potentially to conduct a season-ticket drive, much like Vegas was able to do. However, this does not guarantee the arrival of a team in the Pacific Northwest.
