How to transfer your domain from godaddy to name cheap?

Transferring your domain from Godaddy to namecheap is really quite simple especially from the namecheap side of things. I’m writing this post mainly as reminder to myself and also hopefully to help others. When you transfer your domain from Godaddy to Namecheap you actually learn how safe Godaddy is in fact Godaddy has several measures in place to protect its customer.

The first step is purchasing a Domain Transfer from Namecheap

The first step is to purchase a domain transfer from Namecheap. After you’ve done that you want to you want to check your email for the email titled “EPP Code Required For Domain Transfer” .  Do not delete that email it’s important to the final step. Being that you’re transferring your domain from Godaddy it’s important to note that Godaddy has a bunch of securities in place to protect its customers that being said your next step is to “Unlock Your Godaddy Domain Name” to do this I highly recommend that you visit http://community.godaddy.com/help/410/locking-and-unlocking-your-domain-names

The second step is to Get the EPP code otherwise known as the Authorization Code via Email on Godaddy

In order to transfer your domain from Godaddy you need to get an Epp code for more information on this visit the following page

http://community.godaddy.com/help/1685/getting-an-authorization-code-to-transfer-your-domain-name  personally I recommend choosing the “Getting an Authorization Code via Email (Active Domain Name)” option. Choose the option that suites your needs. Below are the instructions of the “Getting an Authorization Code via Email (Active Domain Name)” option.

Getting an Authorization Code via Email (Active Domain Name)

1. Log in to your Account Manager.
2. In the My Products section, click Domains/Domain Manager.
3. Click the domain name.
4. In the Domain Information section, for Authorization Code, click Send by Email.
5. Click OK twice. We send the authorization code to the admin email address for the domain name.

You should be almost done at this point.

After you’ve done the above mentioned all that’s left to do is to log into the email account you used to purchase the “Transfer Domain” deal at namecheap click the “Transfer Domain : EPP Required : yourdomain.com‏” email and click the link under where it says something like “Once you have the EPP code, please enter it here:” follow those instructions and you’re done.
