What does an amnesty cut mean in the NBA?
It means an NBA team can waive/release any player on their roster, including those under contracts, to have the luxury of freeing up 100% of the waived player’s salary in order to sign other players with the players salary they just waived.
Do amnesty NBA players still get paid?
As far as I know Teams are still bound to pay the NBA amnestied players’ salary, but teams are freed from any obligation to pay luxury tax on those salaries. Of-course it’s more complicated than that but in a nut shell that’s it.
